On October 26, 2019 “Jintiancheng Cup”, the opening ceremony of the 7th College Student Moot Court Competition of Sichuan Province was held in the international Conference Hall of Jiuli Campus of Southwest Jiaotong University at 9 a.m. Twenty-one universities and colleges in Sichuan (University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Southwestern University Of Finance And Economics, Sichuan University For Nationalities, Sichuan Police College,Yibin University, etc.) attend the competition. The competition is sponsored by Education Department of Sichuan Province, undertaken by Southwest Jiaotong University and co-organized by Jintiancheng Law Firm. Bai Zongzhao（a member of Party members' group and vice President of Sichuan Higher People's Court）, Shen Huoming (Southwest Jiaotong University party committee standing committee), Wang Zongqi (Supervisor of Sichuan Bar Association), Liao Bin (Secretary of the party committee of law School of Southwest University Science and Technology), Gao Fan（College Secretary）, Wang Yongjie (Dean of School of Public Affairs & Law，Southwest Jiaotong University, and other leaders, teachers and students attended the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Liu Zhaohui (Deputy Director ofEducation Department of Southwest Jiaotong University). Professor Shen Fuming(a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Southwest Jiaotong University),on behalf of the host of the organizers, extended a warm welcome to the leading guests present and the teams of the various colleges and universities.He proposed that Southwest Jiaotong University is one of the first nationals“Double-First Class” “CirculationProject”,“Characteristic Specialty of 985Project”“2011 Collaborative Innovation Plan” andfocus on the construction of research universities with graduate schools.Itis the first time that Southwest Jiaotong University has hosted a provincial-level competition in law disciplines. TheMootCourtCompetition is an important way to innovate the cultivation of rule of law talents and an important channel to improve the ability of legal practice. It is beneficial for the legal person to develop the way of thinking and consciously practice the core values of socialism.

Bai Zongzhao, vice President of the Sichuan Higher People's Court, said in his speech that the provincial court sent 16 judges from the candidate trial collegiate panel of the fourth“Top 10 Trials”of the provincial courts to serve as expert judges. It will help guide students to deeply explore legal theory, enhance their personal perception of judicial practice, and combine legal theory with social practice. The courts will further strengthen the cooperation and exchanges with colleges and universities in the province, constantly explore the mode of cultivating legal talents in the new era, and open a new chapter in the cultivation of legal talents in China.

Wang Zongqi,supervisorof the Sichuan Bar Association and president of the Chengdu Bar Association, pointed out that the significance of themootcourt competition is not only to familiarize students with court trial activities, but also to establish the socialist concept of the rule of law by participating in and observing the“respect for the Constitution and the law, adhering to procedural justice, and strengthening the integrity and compliance with the law”. It is beneficial to form a good campus and social culture of rule of law, establish legal authority, and be the guardian of justice.

After the opening ceremony, the 7th College Student Moot Court Competition of Sichuan Province officially opened. The competition is divided into two parts: the trial and the on-site trial. The on-site trial includes group stage, rematch, semi-final, and final. The judges of the trial session are senior prosecutors and judges, and the judges of the on-site trial session are composed of members of the collegial panel of the “Top Ten Trials” of the provincial court system, senior lawyers and university teachers. Through the fierce competition, the best pleads, the best debater, the excellent instructor and the team first, second and third were selected.
