Juris Master

The Juris Master (Law) and Juris Master (Non-law) are the eighth batch of Juris Master professional master awarding right approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council in 2009 and started to admit the first cohort of Juris Master students in 2010. The aim of the program is to cultivate high-level legal talents with both moral and legal education, who have the new-era concept of socialist law-based governance with Chinese characteristics. This program has set up orientations in governmental legal affairs, judicial legal affairs, commercial legal affairs and intellectual property legal affairs; set up characteristic course groups such as transportation law, construction and real estate law, and opens up research program Master of Laws courses to students. More than 90% of the full-time teachers in this program have legal practice experience. At the same time, this program engages external practice experts to participate in the whole process of Juris Master training, paying heed to practical teaching. This program has signed cooperation and co-construction agreements with Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress, Sichuan Province Higher People’s Court, Sichuan Province Intellectual Property Office and large law firms to explore and innovate a training mechanism for high-level and application-oriented legal talents.

Master of Resources and Environment

This program cultivates high-level, application-oriented professionals with good professional quality, solid basic theory of safety engineering and broad professional knowledge in public safety, as well as with strong emergency management ability in public safety and the ability to undertake emergency management work of government organs at all levels, large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises and other public organizations.

Graduates in this field should have the following basic abilities: be able to skillfully master the theories, methods and tools of modern safety engineering and management; be conversant with the relevant laws and regulations and policies in the field of public safety; understand the development status and trend in the field of public safety at home and abroad; and in the aspect of practice, have the professional ability of risk identification, organization scheme, communication training and emergency response.

The major of Resources and Environment focuses on the safety issues in the public domain, and has a relatively in-depth study on the social perspective of risk, social stability risk assessment, urban safety, emergency management and other aspects, and maintains close business liaison with government emergency management departments and the safety science research institutes.

Master of Public Administration

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program was approved in 2007.

Based on the multi-disciplinary of Southwest Jiaotong University, it combines public administration with political science and law, combines education and training with practical operation, combines academic exploration with management practice, combines soft science and hard technology. According to the advantages and experience of cultivating Masters of Public Administration and the actual needs of society, the main research fields are: administrative management, social security, educational economy and management, urban development and management, public engineering organization and management, aging cause and industrial management, finance and taxation, e-government, human resources in public sector, etc.

In order to achieve this goal of cultivation, this program adopts the following training methods: implementing flexible educational system and credit system, adopting flexible and diversified training methods; reforming teaching methods, adhering to the teaching principle of integrating theory with practice and paying attention to practical application, focusing on cultivating students’ ability to analyze and solve problems; and strengthening practical teaching such as case analysis, simulation training, class discussion and social investigation, engaging practical experts from public sector and experts in related academic fields to give lectures and set up specific topic presentations.
